You won’t often see Innocent posting topical comedy in the traditional sense (they’re unlikely to take a pop at the government, for example). However, they are very good at writing jokes to mark holidays and other annual occasions.
This joke for St George’s Day saw them return to that old favourite joke format — the funny list. While some list jokes are used to compare and contrast two topics, or simply show off the writers’ imagination by listing variations on a theme, this one tells a story.
In fact, if you want to get really nerdy (we do) you could say that this gag makes the perfect subject for a Venn diagram. The three circles are ‘list jokes’, ‘story jokes’ and ‘spoof instructional guide jokes’ — Innocent’s “How to Slay a Dragon” sits right in the central sweet spot. Nice work!
