This one appeals to their ideal customer on two fronts. Everyone loves Lord of the Rings, and most students have at least heard of Edgar Allen Poe…even if it’s only the goths who really like him.
Of course, turning memes into branded comedy by way of references to 19th century poets won’t work for every brand, but it sure works for SparkNotes. Additionally, they’ve earned our respect for avoiding the overused Boromir meme (you know the one). One does not simply get seventeen thousand likes on Twitter, after all.
