Why Great Comedy Ads Are So Hard to Hire For

Why are great comedy ads so hard to hire for?

Great comedy ads are hard to hire for because they need three rare skills at once: direct-response copywriting that converts, comedy that is genuinely funny, and scroll-stopping creative craft. Most people are strong in one, sometimes two, almost never all three, and training someone to combine them takes months with no guarantee it works.

So we will admit it: we find hiring really hard. Not in a "we cannot find anyone" way. We get applicants. Lots of them. The problem is what happens after that.

It takes three skills at once

What we do requires three things at the same time.

Direct response copywriting that actually converts. Comedy that is actually funny, not "marketer funny", you know the kind, where someone in a boardroom says "let's make it fun!" and the result is a stock photo of a person laughing at a salad. And scroll-stopping creative that earns attention in a feed full of noise.

Most people come in strong on one. Sometimes two. Almost never all three.

And you need all three.

Miss one and the whole thing falls over

Without the direct response, the ads are funny but they do not sell. People smile, then keep scrolling, and nothing hits the checkout.

Without the comedy, the ads sell but nobody stops to read them. The most persuasive argument in the world does no work if it never gets seen.

Without the creative instinct, the whole thing just sits there looking like every other ad in the feed. Technically fine. Completely ignored.

The three skills do not add up. They multiply. And anything multiplied by zero is zero.

Why you cannot just hire your way out of it

So when we find someone promising, it takes months of working alongside us before they are producing at the level we need. Months. Of one-to-one training. Before we even know if it is going to work out.

We are telling you this for a reason. That exact combination, the one that is so hard to find and so hard to train, is what sits behind the results people actually care about. The 50% CPM reductions. The 5x click-through. The conversion rates that make clients think their tracking is broken.

It is not magic. It is a very specific, very hard-to-replicate skill set that took years to build into a team.

The good news

Comedy works in virtually every market, because it is not really about being a comedian. It is about being relatable. The jokes are built on your audience's real frustrations, desires and daily experiences, which every market has in abundance.

We have made this work across dozens of niches. Supplements and skincare. Coaching and SaaS. Handmade products and education. And at least one niche we can no longer talk about for legal reasons.

Work with us

The reason great comedy ads are so hard to hire for is the same reason they work so well: almost nobody can do all three things at once. We have spent years building a team that can.

So rather than spending months trying to assemble that rare combination yourself, you can borrow ours. Work with us and let the team that does this every day build your ads.
