Synopsis
Political division is now in the media too, so biased reporting is becoming normalised. Naturally, people don’t believe the news anymore.
So we created a satirical series of posters that address the rise in biased reporting in today’s mainstream media. In these fictional obituaries, infamous dictators are made to seem positive, showing how half truths are lies too, and are just as dangerous as fake news.
Review
In times where the mainstream media is increasingly biased and partisan, it’s no wonder why people resort to alternative sources of media for balanced information, like social media platforms etc. Current World Leaders have their images whitewashed by media, focusing on their achievements and positives rather than the full picture where their overwhelming negatives can be seen in high definition.
We came up with this idea, based on this real life insight. Half-Truths are becoming a plague in our contemporary world, so we thought to address it by satirically by using 3 infamous dictators from the past on fictional memorials. To push our idea, we removed half their names, using happy imagery and random facts about them that make them seem like stand up guys.
Since it was published, we’ve had a lot of positive feedback, but a couple of negatives too. Naturally, some people assumed that we were Dictator Apologists, but upon closer consideration, I think they got the point. We admit that it is risky and could be misconstrued, but our intention is to create conversation around the looming danger that Half Truths pose, if not addressed.
